After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Madison he started his career in chemistry while being a part time sailor. He had his own San Juan 30 which he sailed all over lake Michigan and also taught ASA sailing lessons.

 In 2023, Alex decided to chase his dream of being a full-time sailor and moved out to Anacortes, Washington where he purchased Makai and began working as a captain full time. He has thousands of hours skippering both sailboats and motor yachts and has taught hundreds of people the joy of sailing.

When Alex is not sailing he can be found kite boarding, hiking up mountains, and in the winter teaching snowboarding.
